Our Story
THE PASSION FOR PIZZA
Twiggy's History
People often ask how the name “Twiggy’s” came about. Once upon a time, our mother worked in the Marine Room Bar at the Terre Haute House. At that time there was a very thin, famous model named Twiggy. Since our mother was on the heavier side, it was a fun nickname that her customers gave her.
Twiggy’s customer’s just loved her! She always had an endearing smile for everyone.
All of her children, Carmen, Phil, Greg, Don, Dana, and Mike, grew up in the restaurant/bar business, from bussing and waiting tables to bar tending. It was a natural fit for her son Greg to open Twiggy’s and name it after her.
We’ve also been asked, “Where is Twiggy today?” Well, she’s still waiting tables; she’s just a little “higher” on the food chain. She passed away in 1985. Her clientele has changed a bit, too. Now she’s serving her favorite crooners like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin!
So sit back, relax, and grab a slice of Sweet Lou’s Pizza and a cold drink. You’ll always be greeted with a smile at Twiggy’s.
Enjoy your visit and do come back. Twiggy’s watching to make sure a good time is had by all (wink).
